WordPress.com Unlocks AI Site Management with MCP

WordPress.com has introduced support for the Model Context Protocol (MCP), an open standard designed to enable direct communication between AI assistants and live website data. Previously, AI tools like Claude or ChatGPT lacked access to real-time WordPress site details, requiring manual data handling. MCP bridges this gap by securely connecting AI assistants to WordPress.com sites, offering immediate visibility into content, analytics, and settings directly within the AI environment.

This integration significantly enhances workflow efficiency, eliminating the need for constant logins and manual dashboard navigation. Users can now query their AI assistant with commands such as “Show me my latest posts and how they’re performing” or “Run a comprehensive health check across all my WordPress.com sites,” receiving instant, data-driven insights and prioritized action plans. MCP centralizes all site content, data, and insights within the AI tool, streamlining management.

Security is paramount with MCP, featuring secure access through OAuth, ensuring no data is stored locally, and providing users full control to connect or disconnect at any time. Initially, the integration offers “read-only” access, allowing AI assistants to securely surface information. WordPress.com is the first WordPress host to implement MCP with OAuth by default, making every paid plan site MCP-ready. Users can enable MCP on their account, configure their AI application (e.g., Claude Desktop, Cursor), and authenticate to begin leveraging this new, efficient interaction method.
